Letters to The Editor: Shameful by Beth Freeman

Never would I ever have imagined I would see U.S. Republican leadership backing communist Russia and despot Vladimir Putin over democratic allies in Europe, including Ukraine, the valiant ‘David’ fighting ‘Goliath’ Russia.
The shameful behavior of our President and Vice-President on February 28th in the Oval Office was nothing short of tactless impudence. Don’t forget what preceded this meeting: offensive Trump lies about the Ukraine war and a refusal at the U.N. to condemn Russia’s invasion. Whining in the meeting about what ‘hell’ he and Putin went through during his first election, Donald Trump shows that he is focused not on the grim reality of the Ukrainian people after 3 long years of fighting but on maintaining personal favor with Putin in hopes of future lucrative Russian real estate deals.
I am thankful my U.S. Navy veteran father, a Reagan Republican, is not alive to see this disgraceful behavior from our government leaders—he would surely oppose abandoning support for Ukraine. Just who’s gambling with World War III? The United States is also at this poker table, and if that disastrous outcome were to unfold, I wonder which side Donald Trump will send U.S. troops to fight for.
